ok real talk. if you have light hair, light brows, or warm undertones and you’re STILL slapping on black mascara… that’s exactly why you look harsher and more “done” than you need to.
I’m a warm-light type, and black mascara always made my eyes look too intense and honestly kind of heavy. switching to brown softened my entire face. it just pulls the whole look together in this soft, effortless way.
so I went through basically every brown mascara at the K-beauty store and ended up settling on these two:

The thing they have in common (why they’re worth it)
both are:

- ✔ but removable with just warm water
that combo is everything — it survives the day but doesn’t require harsh rubbing to take off, so even sensitive-eye girlies can wear these without stress.
Performance? honestly… barely any difference
I’ll be real with you: performance-wise they’re basically tied.
both have:
- ✔ great curl hold
- ✔ legit lengthening
- ✔ almost zero smudging or flaking
I have short lashes so I ONLY buy mascaras that actually lengthen — and both of these deliver. just genuinely well-made products.
The actual difference = the color
this is what it comes down to:
Clinique Dark Chocolate → deeper, a touch cooler. it’s brown but more rich and grounded, so it defines the eye and makes it look sharper and more “put together.”
Dejavu S14 Brown → softer, warmer brown. it relaxes the eye into that natural, lived-in look.
real talk though?? once it’s actually on your lashes the difference is pretty subtle 😂 but the vibe is:
- Clinique → defined / sharp / clean
- Dejavu → soft / natural / effortless
since performance is so close, just pick based on the color vibe you want.
The downside (same for both): getting them
the brown shades are kind of annoying to find. Clinique does buy-one-get-one deals a lot, but rarely on the brown shade, and it can be a little hard to track down. Dejavu you mostly have to buy online since it’s not always in stores.
